Our Mission

Kin-nection is a 501c3 public charity non-profit organization that serves displaced people (e.g. asylees, refugees, and migrants) suffering from afflictions related to forced migration. Kin-nection gives refugees and migrants access to interculturally and linguistically competent mental health support. We serve displaced people from around the world who have survived conflict and/or climate crises and have been forced out of their homeland. We understand the pain of being away from one’s homeland and home culture. Sometimes healing is about psychological treatment; sometimes it is just about having a sense of KINship and human conNECTION.

Board

Our Board is comprised of professionals who value interculturalism and humanity. We believe in the healing power of kinship regardless of geography.

Our Team

We are lucky to have a team of volunteer who are willing to share their expertise and do the heart work to support our mission.

Competence

We believe culture is the essence of life and respecting one another’s culture is of the utmost importance. This is why we value providing services in one’s preferred language by professionals who understand interculturalism and treat all people with respect and dignity.

In a world tumbling rapidly toward artificial intelligence, we value what humans have to offer. We believe that in healing professions, human beings are best supported psychologically and emotionally via other humans. We embrace combining technology with human expertise to increase our reach.

Connecting mental health and language professionals require a degree of competency in knowing how to work with one another. We provide quality training to both mental health specialists and professional interpreters so that they can learn best practices when collaborating.

Trust

Empathy

Vulnerable populations have difficulty rebuilding trust with the world, with others and with themselves. We value creating safety in relationships by providing care that people trust.

Our providers are only here because they genuinely want to work for this mission and have compassion for humans in unfortunate circumstances.
